  • What’s a cryptolocker virus?

    December 20, 2020

What’s a cryptolocker virus? Many of our clients have received a phishing email claiming to be a reputable company such as Australia Post. The email will generally contain a link which once clicked will download and infect the user’s computer. This particular virus will encrypt your documents, spreadsheets and photos and then demand a ransom in order to restore access to your files.

    What can you do?

    • Install internet security software – there’s no guarantee that it will stop everything but most infections can be avoided by having a reputable internet security installed.
    • Have a backup system in place – there’s no excuse for not backing up! Many people consider backing up when they’ve either come close to or lost all of their data. Portable hard drives can be purchased for less than $100 and save you hundreds in the long run.
    • Have a disaster recovery process in place – think about what you can’t live without and what you would need to get you back up and running should anything happen to your computer. Once you work this out, you can determine what type of backup you need, how frequent you need to do it and how to deal with each scenario.
